Modern life can be chaotic and overwhelming, especially in a bustling metropolis like Istanbul. The Botanica Istanbul project draws inspiration from the basic needs of families living in the city - the stillness and serenity of nature. By seamlessly blending nature and modern design, Selin Buharalioglu has created a unique and inviting space that offers respite from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
The centerpiece of Botanica Istanbul is a turquoise pool located in the center of the landscape. This pool not only adds a touch of elegance but also serves as a visual reminder of the calming properties of water. To further integrate nature into the design, a gabion wall and large plants are strategically placed on the sunbathing deck, creating a harmonious balance between the natural and the modern.
The attention to detail in Botanica Istanbul is evident in the small touches that elevate the design. The ropes on the bridge railing and the wooden feet of the pergola at the end of the bridge add a modern and sophisticated look. Additionally, the use of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) with steel feet and spot lighting throughout the garden creates a sense of separation between each section while giving the landscape an original and contemporary aesthetic.
One of the standout features of Botanica Istanbul is the lighting design. The plants are illuminated with different colors, creating a relaxing and enlightening environment. This thoughtful use of lighting not only enhances the visual appeal of the landscape but also contributes to the overall ambiance and mood.
The realization of Botanica Istanbul involved the use of gabion walls for planters and concrete for the walking areas, resulting in a natural yet modern look. The combination of GRP and steel feet on the white monument adds a touch of elegance and durability to the design.
Spanning over 14,000 square meters, Botanica Istanbul offers residents a place to escape the stresses of city life and reconnect with nature. The design includes various relaxing visual aspects, such as the gabion wall made from natural rocks, evergreen trees, and a wide variety of green plants on the sunbathing deck. With numerous spots to rest and unwind, the garden provides an opportunity for family members to rejuvenate their minds and bodies.
Located in Istanbul, Turkey, the Botanica Istanbul project was constructed between March 2016 and June 2017. The design team, led by Selin Buharalioglu of Buharalioglu Architects, conducted extensive research to understand the needs and desires of the target demographic - middle-aged couples and families with young children. The goal was to create a space that would allow residents to escape the chaos of the city and spend quality time in a natural and peaceful environment.
Botanica Istanbul was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Landscape Planning and Garden Design in 2018. This prestigious recognition is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. The project's incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology showcases the strong technical and creative skills of the design team, making Botanica Istanbul a true oasis in the heart of Istanbul.
